NEARLY 350 ATTENDED ANNUAL FUND-RAISER

Eric Von

About 350 people attended the third annual Gala Dinner and Silent Auction to help the children, adults and families served by My Home Your Home Inc.

The event was held on the evening of Thursday, May 24, 2007 at the Midwest Airlines Center, 400 W. Wisconsin Ave. Milwaukee talk-radio personality Eric Von was the emcee.

My Home Your Home offers a wide array of services to low-income children, adults and families who are facing major challenges in their lives. The agency has more than 80 employees and has an annual budget of more than $4 million.

Von, the emcee, is host of the weekday-afternoon Eric Von Show on 1290 WMCS-AM. He is a member of My Home Your Home’s board of directors.

Funding to help the clients of My Home Your Home comes from government agencies, foundations and community donors -- and from the annual Gala Dinner and Silent Auction.

This year’s event began with a “Badger Bounty” Silent Auction featuring Wisconsin products and attractions. There was also a raffle.

The raffle and Silent Auction were organized by volunteers from Scheibel Halaska, a downtown Milwaukee business-to-business marketing communications firm that is a longtime supporter of My Home Your Home.

At the dinner, My Home Your Home paid tribute to the Badger Mutual Insurance/Brown Deer Women’s Amateur Golf Tournament, which has been a major donor to Lissy’s Place. Lissy’s Place is the agency’s transitional housing program on West Center Street for homeless women between the ages of 18 and 29.

Dinner attendees also heard real-life success stories from children and adults who have been helped by My Home Your Home.

Music Makers, a troupe of strolling musicians, and the Christopher’s Project jazz band provided entertainment.

My Home Your Home is headquartered at 6200 W. Center St. It has an auxiliary office at 1862 W. Fond du Lac Ave.

In addition to Lissy’s Place, My Home Your Home operates Amad’s Place, a stabilization center on West Keefe Avenue for boys between the ages of 12 and 17; Treatment Foster Care, providing homes for foster children with special needs; Wraparound Care, a court-ordered program serving at-risk families; Family Supportive Services, providing in-home services including supervised visitations and mentoring; Outpatient Clinic for persons with mental health or addiction problems; Access to Recovery, assisting people who have a history of abusing alcohol and other drugs; and Training and Education, a support program for staff, families, children and other organizations.

Constance Palmer-Jones is executive director of My Home Your Home. She is one of six children in the family of Irma and Aubrey Walker, who founded My Home Your Home in 1989 as a way of improving the foster-care system. Irma Walker continues to hold the title of founder/president.
